Survivor lyrics
(Music / Lyrics: Fukuyama Masaharu)
Busy intersections buried by the crowds
Like those boring movies we’d seen
This competitive culture and system
Leaves me feeling hollow and empty
You’re not here anymore
The third summer has passed
But I’m still in this place
I don’t want anyone now
Not even you, not even friends
This survival race, this solitude
Even though I’ve accepted it, I still want to scream out
Burying myself in work (keeping myself busy)
To avoid facing disappointment
That summer, my clock stopped
And only the anguish remained
I really want to see you now……
Strolling along the seaside that we both loved
You suddenly looked like you had something to say
In somebody’s heart, there is still hidden
Your kiss and that distant warmth
The sun is setting in the West
Staining the streets in mosaic colour
I had chosen to stay here
And the dread on my face
Is hidden under a mask
This survival race, this solitude
As if to escape from it, I ram down the accelerator
The Bayshore Route* is blotched in red
Rear lights, I just want to overtake them
What am I looking for, what do I believe in
What have I done for you?
I am physically and emotionally in pain
I’m constantly questioning the reason for living
Tears discarded in that summer,
One more time, I go to the beach
I really want to see you now…..

Masha said that this is a song dedicated to all the men living in the city. It could be about him, it could be about Souguchi-san or someone else. He had finished the melody long before, but only just filled in the lyrics recently. The long guitar segment in the prelude was played by Masha himself. When he was looking over the album to see what element was missing, he found that they didn’t have a song with this type of feeling, so he picked this melody out from his collection to balance out the overall impact of the album.
* The Bayshore Route (湾岸線) is a part of the expressway in Greater Tokyo between Yokohama city and Ichikawa city.
